On May 15^th, 2011, International SSL Alliance Beijing Meeting was held in Beijing with a morning session focusing on the grand challenges of lighting transformation project in the Great Hall of People and an afternoon session focusing on the global strategic research agenda and the organization of ISA global student SSL contest etc.ISA president Wu Ling, director Frederic Quan, Moo Whan Shin, Bing-Jye Lee, Warren Julian, Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) representative Avinash Kulkarni, and member companies and organizations representatives joined this meeting.

In the morning session ISA experts from various countries and regions was invited by the Great Hall of People at Guang Xi Hall to,, , discuss technical challenges in the lighting transformation project at  the Grand Auditorium of the Great Hall of People . ISA president Wu Ling addressed ISA members with a warm and hearty welcome, stressing on the values and objectives of Great Hall of People lighting transformation project, followed by Great Hall of People Administration Bureau’s acknowledgement on the input and contributions from ISA guests. The official from the bureau stated that:”Great Hall of People Grand Auditorium lighting transformation project bears great values on energy conservation and demonstration. Meanwhile, the project presents challenges such as high-level specifications on lighting reliability, safety and almost stringent adherence to the original lighting environment and cultural references. The expert opinions and suggestions from ISA members on technical solutions and relevant international projects experience will be greatly appreciated.”

During the site inspection tour in the Grand Auditorium, ISA members and experts examined the previous project in the stage area, in which SSL replaced conventional halogen lights, and discussed with the bureau officials on the current lighting specifications and styles. ISA experts stated that: The Grand Auditorium presents unique challenges for High & Spatial Space lighting, with tremendous demonstration value in LED luminaire design, heat dissipation, noise reduction, dimming control and safety guarantee. Meanwhile, the new lighting source such as SSL, will stick to the original lighting environment and designs, as well as providing high color rendering capabilities for TV broadcast and media sessions.”ISA members and experts suggested that member enterprises and institutes, under the organization and coordination of ISA, shall form well-aligned joint efforts to further analyze and discuss the solutions to the challenges with broad referencesto the previous case studies in a global scale. The experts will follow up with a feasibility study and technical recommendation report.”
